  1. Hey guys - I am a TV cature newbie and I need help.

I want to capture college football games from cable TV and burn them to DVD.

I have already captured two games via my ATI AIW 9700 Pro card. Each game is about 2.5 hours and I captured in 320x480 resolution MPEG-2.

Here is the problem. The files are both around 10GB!!

My DVD authoring SW (TMPGEnc DVD Authoring SW) warns me that the files are too big.

    So here are my questions:
    1. Is there a way to adjust the capture settings so that the files are smaller at the end? If so, what are the settings?
    2. Is there a way to "shrink" (shrink, encode, transcode, whatever) the 10GB files I already have to fit onto a single DVD?

    All help is MUCH appreciated!

  2. Use DVDShrink after TDA has created the necessary VOB and IFO files.

  3. Do you recall off hand what you 'bitrate' was for these captures.

It should have been around 3000 or 3500 max and would give you a great picture at 1/2 DVD (D1-352x480)

For some capture guides using ati cards visit www.digitalfaq.com. Lordsmurf has written great guides with detailed descriptions of bitrate etc...

Ati's preset settings aren't very good.

What format is your sound track in? LPCM? You can convert it to AC3 or MPEG audio. AC3 is preferable because some standalone DVD players don't support MPEG audio.

That may be true but I haven't run into problems with mpeg audio from my hauppauge wintv 250. Stick with ac3 to be sure but you could test .mp2 audio on a rewritable dvd .
