On two different computers (a G4 Powerbook 1.3ghz and a Dual 1.0 ghz G4 desktop) I haven't been able to generate a MP4 or mov file using ffmpeg engine (I have used the quick presets both times MOV MPEG4 libvac and MP4 libvac). The files seem to be churning but having left them for 2.5 days, they seem to stall out.

I have used the mencoder on the same files, but for some reason have trouble playing XVID files in VLC (skipping around doesn't work quite right).

    My questions are
    1) How long does it typically take to process a 6 gb single VOB using the mpeg4 compression. Is it just REALLY slow and I should have kept it going?
    2) Are there any recommendations for playing back with VLC for compatability? Size of files isn't a huge issue (although I don't want to be packing around 6 gb vob files on my laptop)

I am current (ffmpegX 0.0.9o) and double checked the latest library files.

  2. I am going to publish some encoding speed benchmarks for the various engines, for the upcoming 0.0.9p release. For specific issues about an encoding not working, email me at major4@mac.com with your process output (blue "i" icon).
