    Hello,

In the original trilogy Darth Vader kills Obi Wan and later says Luke learned much from him AFTER his death. Now that we have episodes 1 and 2 complete OBVIOUSLY Anakin Skywalker knows who YODA is. Will we find out in episode 3 why he doesn't know about yoda in the original trilogy??

In some of the novels (unofficial history), they say Dagobah had some kind of force block to conceal Yoda. But if he was training Luke wouldn't that have affected the Force enough to alert Vader to his presence???

So you are asking why Vader didn't go and kill Yoda, or are you suggesting that he doesn't even remember him?

I don't know why he would sense the little guy all the way across the galaxy, even if he did have suspicions that he was still alive. I'm trying to think of a contrary example, but whenever one side or the other sensed a light or dark presence they were always relatively close.

Why couldn't Yoda or Qui Gon or anyone else sense that Palpatine was as evil as they come, even though he was in the same room as them? The most powerful force users apparantly have a way of "clouding the force" as they talk about at the end of Episode I.

    Hello,

Adam, good point. I guess what I'm getting at is that Vader says Obi Wan taught Luke well in Return of the Jedi AFTER he killed him (alluding to his improved skills since his encounter at Bespin).

I just figure he should have suspected that another powerful Jedi could have intervened.

I see what you mean. Well, Obi did still help a little bit after his death. Mostly moral support I guess you could say.

I suppose he could have said your Master has taught you well. That would have been generic enough.

But I think Vader probably did forget about Yoda, in the sense that he thought he must have died already or that he was just totally out of the picture after so many years. And there are definitely no other Jedi left, that much is clear.

    Hello,

Adam- Yep. Also, Yoda is supposed to have the highest midiclorian count next to Anakin (aka Vader). Wouldn't that light him up like a firework??

Anyway, It just seemed odd. Also, how did Vader ignore Obi Wan for that many years?? Wouldn't he want to hunt down the person who turned him into Vader in the first place (physically at least as is supposed to happen in 3 - the fight).

Sad as it is to say, I think it was just a lack of foresight on Lucas' part; not really thinking through or even about the prequels.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

    Hello,

VIral1 - Yea, there a some inconsitencies in the whole series. Like Obi Wan was supposed to be wild like Luke when Yoda taught him. So to get around that Lucas had Yoda teach the Jedi when there young. So he makes up Qui Gon and all of a sudden Obi Wan is his wise old self.

Though, notice how anti-alien Obi Wan seems in Episode 1? He goes "Whats this" when they meet Jar Jar. Jar Jar is clearly an inteligent (ok weird) creature but calls him a this.

    BUMP!!!!!

I was thinking about this just now. I figure what it was is the Emperor decides Yoda did die even though they never found a body after his duel with Yoda in the Senate chamber. So he and vader would forget about him???? I don't know possibly.

the original book has always been written. lucas chose to make episode 4 the first movie because he felt this would be his best bet of captivating the world with a new idea and a tiny budget.

I agree that Lucas is full of shit and pulling things out of his ass, with absolutely no sense of continuity.

    ?????

All the midiclorians were about was a way to measure force receptivity.

EDIT - also - for LUKE's era the JEDI were wiped from current discussion so it was all mystical. During the prequels the JEDI were in their declining years but they knew how everything worked - more or less.

  15. I think that Vader tells Luke "Obi-Wan has taught you well", because Vader thought Obi-Wan raised Luke all those years.

He never knew that they only tagged along for a short time.

Since he saw them together, he assumed that he was his only master, that's why he is always saying "Obi-Wan has taught you well".

And Yoda.... well, he was left for dead, and since many years passed and he never returned or tried anything, that just confirmed the theory!.

And the only one that has the power enough to cloud the force is the master of the sith, that's why he was able to obfuscate himself even between them. Yoda couldn't do this because that's using the dark side of the force (Treachery, Deceit), that's why he chose Dagobah, because that planet has a special afinity with the dark side of the force and that would block his prosecutors from finding him there.

And I think it's not like Vader forgets Yoda, he never actually meets with him in the original trilogy, so, to his eyes, he is dead since a long time ago.

There was no trace of either Obi Won or Yoda for 19 years then all of the sudden Obi Won shows up with this kid and they proceed to battle it out for a few years. I just can't think of why Vader would suspect that Yoda, who was really looking like he was on his death bed already in Episode I, had trained Luke too. He knew for a fact that Obi Won trained him, so it makes sense to just assume everything that Luke knows came from him.

As for why Vader never searched for Obi Won, first off I think its no coincidence that Obi Won chose to hide himself and Luke on Tatooine. That is the one place in the galaxy that he knows Vader would never return to. Remember how as a kid Anakin says he wants to leave and never come back? (well he wants to come back to free the slaves but THEN leave forever) Then he has to to save his mom and he fails? Bad memories there... He hates the sand, he hates the sandpeople, he just hates the planet.

Also, not that its necessarily representative of Vader's thoughts, but in one scene Tarkin tells Vader that "Surely he must be dead by now" in reference to Obi Won.

The expanded universe novels also kinda touches on this too. After the prequel era Vader and the Emperor are very busy conquering the galaxy for that 19 years. Vader becomes completely controlled by the Emperor. In one novel he actually has to go behind his back and hire a young Boba Fett to try to investigate how Amidala really died. He doesn't have time or authority to go searching for his former master, and I really don't think he even wants to. Its all pretty damn mystical. He knows that when the time is right they will duel again, and that's what happens. When they both sense each other on the Death Star they know its time.

there a some inconsitencies in the whole series. Like Obi Wan was supposed to be wild like Luke when Yoda taught him. So to get around that Lucas had Yoda teach the Jedi when there young. So he makes up Qui Gon and all of a sudden Obi Wan is his wise old self.
What do you mean? Are you saying you think Obi Won was wise when Qui Gon taught him? I don't think so at all. Remember how he always warned to stop rushing into things and criticized because he tended to see things in black and white. I think he was wild all during his youth, when Yoda and Qui Gon taught him. It wasn't until he took on the responsibility of being a master that he started to change. He became the wise old man that we see in Ep. IV because he continued to train with Qui Gon's ghost after the prequels.

Very good points adam. With episode 3 complete now its a little more manigible to tie the loose ends together. Of course not everything is complete yet. Some things will never be explained.

BUT maybe the TV SHOW will flesh out some details. It's supposed to follow supporting characters not the main people. I got a chance to see the deleted scenes on the dvd and saw the "formation" of the Rebel Alliance.

That would be the most logical focus of the series. Since its supposed to be between Episodes 3 and 4 that would be the main conflict. The empire and the growing rebellion threat.

In episode IV, Leah was already a rebel leader. Not sure why Obi Wan never train her. For the rebelion to suceed, there must be a leader to lead and good warrior to fight. Maybe Obi Wan sensed that it was the right time to train Luke to be jedi.

Vader was totally devouted to the Emperor. The Emperor thought that the jedi were completely wiped out by Order 66. Or whatever remain of them were no longer a threat. Concentrating securing and expanding the galaxtic empire was his goal and not hunting down the remaining jedi.

Darth Vader got really tired of answering ridiculous questions like: "What about Yoda?", "Don't you remember Yoda?", "Why did you say that Obi-Wan taught Luke well, when we all know that it was Yoda that trained him?".

After hearing these questions for the 90 millionth time, he killed himself.

Actually, I think that Obi Wan had no choice.. if you remember the scene..
where he and Luke watch the video hologram of Leah's plea for help of Obi Wan.

Right then and their, was Obi's quick decision to train Luke, "..you must
learn the ways of the force.."

And that's where it all started to unfold.. Star Wars, that is
