    Hello

On my desktop computer I can play MKV files and on my laptop not, on my laptop computer I have a need for a dvsd codec to be able to play an AVI file captured from a DV camera using adobe premiere 7.

Basically I have a lot of codec problems, is there a universal codec pack available on this site or somewhere else ?

I have looked in the codec section of the site but nothing about dvsd and I have installed the matroska pack on both computers and it works on 1 but not on the other....

    Thanks for the help

Codec packs are often the cause, not the solution, to many codec problems. Some codec packs install codecs that clash with each other, others include spyware. Generally the advice that I, and others, give with regrads to codecs is only install them as you need them.

DVSD is probably a DV-Avi file. WIN XP includes the MS DV codec (not sure about other vers of windows). If you need an alternative there are free ones available from Canopus (playback only) and Panasonic (playback and encode) in the tools section.

    Hello,

After converting the AVI file to DV2 format I can now play file using WMP but virtualdub won't open it and I need to extract JPG frames....

Is there a way to extract still frames and save them as JPG using WMP ?

Also a great tool would be one that gives mùe the COMPLETE list of codecs required to play a file and which are currently installed on the machine and which ones are needed

    Thanks a lot

    Why?
What codec did the original use. If you can convert it, you should be able to play it. The convert app would need to be able to decode the source file in order to generate the new format.

A Sony DV Camera (or any DV camera) does not produce uncompressed avi's, it produces DV avi. This is compressed.
In order to open in virtualdub, install the Panasonic DV codec and vdub will open them fine.
