  1. okay, this may be a stupid question, but here it goes... Why do I/we have to convert from .avi extention to burn and watch VCD's? I thought that I could just drop the .avi movie into Nero and he would just burn it, or do the conversion automatically. Anyway, I know its a dumb question, but can anyone explain?

Check 'What is' to the left under VCD. To be compatable with settop video players you need a MPEG format. (Some players can use XVID or DIVX format, which is a form of AVI.)

Nero may be able to burn a AVI to a VCD, but it would have to convert it to MPEG format to be a compliant VCD, DVD, SVCD. (And Nero does a generally poor job of converting.)

You need to read the 'Guides', also to the left.

Last time I checked, Nero can do it automatically. I wouldn't let him though - there's something fishy about his tunic and wreath I reckon.

Jokes aside, Nero is probably not the best for converting to VCD.

There are a number of MPEG encoders in the tools section to your left. I suggest you try one of these in conjunction with an associated guide.
    If in doubt, Google it.
