I've had this problem off and on for a few months and it doesn't happen all the time but when it DOES, I end up having to shut down my PC and reboot it later (more on the later part some other time). I'll be in the middle of using my wireless mouse and all of a sudden it will just stop responding. It's an optical, the light still comes on and it will still light up more if I move it, just like it normally does. The funny thing about it is that it's part of a wireless KB/Mouse combo. It's a Logitech Cordless Freedom Optical package. The keyboard and the mouse are both cordless and both use the same RF receiver. The receiver has 2 connections. 1 plugs into the PS/2 keyboard port and the other plugs into a USB port. I have both connected (I think USB is for the mouse only). I have tried unplugging and replugging the mouse, uninstalling it in Device Manager and redetecting, even restarting the computer (Soft boot). Nothing except shutting it all the way down seems to fix it. I hate doing this because for some reason (could be mobo, could be PSU) if I shut the system all the way down, hitting the power switch results in a the lights coming halfway on and then fading out. Subsequently I end up having to unplug the PSU and hit the off switch on the back of it, wait a few min and replug etc. Not too worried about that part for now, but I hate having to basically shut down and switch PCs when my mouse locks up. Any advice is appreciated.

    TIA
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

  2. I have a logitech mouse/keyboard combo and there is a little recessed connect button on the mouse which normally fixes the problem of the mouse not working. It usually happens when the batteries are getting low.

Forgot to mention that. I've tried reconnecting as well. I may just have to go get more AAs. I think this was my last set.

The funny thing is, it will run for weeks between the time it starts acting up and when the batteries die, and it's only been in the past 4 mos that I've had that issue. It used to be that it would work fine up until the batteries died.

I had the same problem before, I to thought it was the wireless mouse. Give a regular mouse a shot, I bet it still happens. Unfortunately, I ended up getting a new computer before I took the time to figure out what the problem was.

I don't have a problem where it completely stops working but it does seem to pause a lot and it's not because of the PC running or the batteries going. It'll just skip around. I honestly think it could be radio interference with it even though I'm pretty far away from anything outside of my home that could cause it.

If you're seeing stuff turn on momentarily when hitting the power switch after shutting off the ground switch or unplugging the PC that's normal. Your caps are just discharging, standard op for preparing to work inside the computer too. Have a big cap discharge on your finger sometime

I've got a Logitech cordless combo at work where the mouse has a charging cradle. I really like that idea but the keyboard still runs out of power, though the batteries in it have lasted almost a year now. For home I have the smaller cordless mouse because I like the weight and size of it. I bought a good rechargeable battery set for it so I can swap them out pretty much anytime. Batteries last about 3 months that way.

i would much rather just purchase an optical mouse with a cord, i really dont move from in fron of my comp much, so theres really no need, the wires will always be aproblem be it with a cordless combo or not, because i still have to hook the receiver up. so if you have to have wires, why not just stick with the physical connection.
