  1. I don't know about new, but several programs will allow you to watch hdtv with ss1 cards...progdvb, ritzdvb, dreamdvb, and many more. Many have been around for years, they have either hardware mode or software mode. You just select software mode (and set up your graphs) if you want to watch hdtv with ss1.

Let me add, for those thinking of shelling out the bucks, that many satellite providers are removing hdtv from the free-to-air feeds. In addition to most not being free anymore (still some), many are using symbol rates that are not compatible with ss1 cards. I guess I'm just saying caveat emptor.

Basicly, I use progdvb myself and I was never able to bypass the built in mpeg decoder so to watch HDTV with SS1.
I can do this easy with SS2.
From what I know, this is impossible. How do you do it?

And yes, currently there is only one HDTV FTA channel in europe. The "HD Forum tests", Atlantic Bird 3 Satellite at 5.0°West, Freq: 11677 V, S.R.:25000 - F.E.C.: 1/2

Euro1080 (now called HDTV1) is not FTA anymore (it is encrypted to irdeto 2)

  3. I use RitzDVB on my SS1 (Nexus-s) to view HDTV. I'm not sure it's possible with ProgDVB. Ritz is probably the best app for hardware based cards such as the Nexus. And don't forget, hardware decoding uses basically no CPU, whereas the software based cards use enough to render the host machine useless for any other tasks. I run my Nexus 24/7 and can still do anything else I need to do. The video output is great, although an s-video connector would be preferred to the composite.

All in all, I'm totally happy with my Nexus and would recommend it to anyone...

  5. You can't get HDTV through a hardware card. For regular TV I'm only using 20% of my cpu and can do many other thing like burning etc.

So, you mean cyantist is wrong about SS1?

I can do this almost 2 years now with my SS2 (which is not hardware)

  7. I can assure you Vanderlow is wrong....you can get HDTV even with a hardware card, but you cannot use the on-board hardware chip to do so. You have to switch the software into 'software' mode - and have a graph set up to make it work.

This is not even really up for discussion, I know for a fact it is possible since I have done it. I no longer use it, for reasons I listed above, but it can be done with SS1 no doubt.

Progdvb, Ritzdvb, Dvbdream, MyTheatre all can/could do it with the correct graph. I'm not going to write a step by step guide but I'll pm people with info on where to find them if they want.
