I use DVDAuthorGUI to author my MPEG file from Womble MVW. Since DVDAuthorGUI requires stream files (*.mpv and *.mpa) as input, I have to demux the MPEG file from Womble MVW first. But I noticed that one of the first things DVDAuthorGUI does is to multiplex the streams back into an MPEG file again (it calls "mplex.exe"). I was wondering if I could edit the process.bat file and skip the mplex step.

The reason I ask is I looked at the MPEG file which came from runnning mplex.exe and it is not the same size as the original MPEG file. I loaded the two MPEG files into Womble and looked at their properties. The original file is 1 frame less than the new file from mplex. All the other properties (aspect ratio, bit-rate, etc.) are the same.

If the outputted file from womble is an mpeg with NAV packets multiplexed in, then simply rename the .mpg to .vob and import the vob. Otherwise the mpeg must be remultiplexed with NAV packets in order to be processed by dvdauthor.

How can I tell if the mpeg has NAV packets?

  4. You can try my GUI for DVDauthor. There you will get this information (if you drag your mpeg file in the main background, you will see a dialog where MUX OK is 'Yes' for NAV packets and 'No' if they are missing). You may still use liquid's DVDauthorGUI to actually create the DVD.

Other possibility: Simply try it. Rename your mpeg file(s) to vob and use the filetype: 'mpeg with NAV packets(*.vob)'.

Thanks for the info. I tried it will a small file and it didn't work (I got error messages from dvdauthorgui and the vob file was 0 bytes). So I guess I cannot skip this step. thanks.
