Hi,
I am going to backup my DVD movie collection.
I am a perfectionnist and I'd like that my copies look exactly the same as the originals.
I am going to purchase an Epson R-200 for on disc printing.
It looks obvious that get a color on disc print, I just need to get a white printable blank DVD.
What about those discs where the background remains silver and the wrinting is either white or color? How do you print white on a silver printable disc.
Also, does any of you have a special technique to print on-disc while the background is silver (I mean do you scan the original and work the file in Photoshop to make the background transparent) ?
My last question is what type of paper does the industry use for DVD inserts? And also, do you think that I will obtain better results (as far as printing the inserts) with the Epson R200 or with my Xerox Phaser 8200DP laser printer?

Great printer, I own two for DVD printing.I am going to purchase an Epson R-200 for on disc printing.

Well, you don't 'print' white. White is just an absense of ink. So when you print on the white inkjet printable labels, it just doesn't lay any ink down. The same thing goes for the silvers, so you get a different/unique look. It works for some labels, but not all. I print my Stargate: Atlantis dvds using the silvers, because it gives them a unique, almost holographic look. What about those discs where the background remains silver and the wrinting is either white or color? Don't know about the use of transparent background. Whether you have a transparent background or a white one, is going to be the same effect - no ink will be used for printing in that area. Email me if you want to see some scans of finished dvds, I have samples scanned from both the whites and silvers. Also, does any of you have a special technique to print on-disc while the background is silver (I mean do you scan the original and work the file in Photoshop to make the background transparent)?
