  1. I have just recently bought a new dvd burner which is supposedly capable of burning Dual Layer DVD's. I use to use DVDShrink, to shrink the dvd's to a normal size for a dvd-r and then use nero to burn them. I have looked on this site a bit and I can't seem to find any help on burning these type of dvds.

What Burning program or Ripping&Burning program in one can I use to do Dual Layer DVD's? Is there a setting in Nero that needs changing to allow Dual Layer to be burnt?

Also am I only able to use DVD+R for Dual layer, or can I use DVD-R as well?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

You don't need to shrink if you have blank DL disks. DL = DVD9, so a commercial movie DVD (usually DVD9) will fit straight onto a DL DVD. You can use the new version of Decrypter to rip and burn or Nero 6 to burn. I think there are only DL+ disks at the moment.

as winifreid says, there is no need to shrink and only +r is available for DL.

However, first ensure that your standalone dvd player is compatible with DL disks. what type of dvd burner do you have. if it is a lite-on, you can have the benefit of using bitsetting to change the booktype to dvd-rom.

but DL disks are still quite expensive, might to best to stick with single layer dvd+-r for the time being.

  4. The burner is a LG burner, but I don't know the model number. As for if my Standalone DVD Player plays DL, I know it plays it on dual layered hired or bought dvd's, but as for burnt DL ones I will have to try and see by burning one.

    Thanks for your help.

Forgive me if I'm asking the obvious, but you do know there's a difference between regular DVD+R media and DVD+RDL media right? Just because you have a DL burner doesn't mean you can burn 8.5GB to just any old disc, you need special media.
    Example of DVD+R media
    Example of DVD+RDL media

Just the way you worded your question makes me believe that you think all media can be burned DL with the writer you have.
