  1. Is there a free program similar to the one included in Nero for making Dvd Covers? I just want to import my bitmap into the program and print. The main reason I need this is so that it sizes the image correctly, and I just put it on A1 paper which is slightly longer than a standard letter 8.5x11. Is there such a program? Thanks.

  2. Yes, you can download ExPressit 2.1 SE for free.

This is the program that comes with Memorex DVD case label packs.

I just bought the 3.0 SX version off their website last week. (It cost me $10.78 when converted to US dollars.) It has several new features such as ability to edge outline text, shadows, shapes, transparency, etc.

I think its a good little program for doing labels. You might just download the free version, 2.1 SE first and get the new one if you need the extra features.

Be warned though that the new version (3.0) doesn't seem to be able to open the old 2.1 SE files.

The gimp will do that too. Go to image>scale, change the display print properties to the correct size in inches.

I'll give that a try, thanks.

The only problem with that is that I have many layers in my image, so I would I have to anchor all of them first and then scale it so that it all scales proportionally?

Correct or merge the layers with the canvas then resize. I haven'y used it so I don't know what the exact procedure is for the Gimp but most image editors are the same.

  7. not sure if it's in your budget, but I recently bought the epson R200 that prints directly onto inkjet printable cd/dvd's and am very impressed with the quality. No more labels and it comes with a nice little program for printing.

It's not free, but at around US$20, DVD CoverPrint from North someone or other does the job for me.
    If in doubt, Google it.
