codec help needed please

i have been having problems with source avi files and audio sync, i play the files and the audio sync seems all over the place, sometimes 1 second back sometimes 1 second forward, keeps changing, im wondering if its my codecs? i thought it was my source files at first, but the source files work fine on my other computer (which doesnt have a dvd-writer) its just on this one, i installed the kazaa lite codec pack from this site, then was told that was a bad thing to do, so i removed it in control panel, and installed just the ac3 filter, and xvid codec, but still have the problem, when i go to device manager i still have some of the kazaa codecs listed but when i remove them, then go back to device manager, they appear again? thanks in advance

Since you know the names of the codecs from the Kazaa pack, try unregistering them or lowering the merit to 200000 with Directshow Filter Manager. You can find it here:

You may want to write down the filename and path before unregistering codecs because you will need it if you want to re-register them.

Also, if you lower merit values, you may need to reboot for it to take effect.
