I'm trying to encode a video file but everytime I try and load it into tmpenc it says it's unsupported or cannot open(I tried increasing the dircetshow thing but that didn't work). I also get the same thing when I try to convert the audio to wav in virtual dub. however, when I play the file in wmp, it plays fine. As far as I know it doesn't take a special codec, avicodec told me it's using mpeg layer 3. how can I fix this?

I assumed you mean VD reported file unsupported also...You have to installed AC3ACM codec. probably your avi has ac3 sound track. Try it
