  1. I've read thru the post I could find and need help with trying to update my firmware. From what I've read it seems that the updates from Pioneer have to downloaded to a PC then flashed to the MAC? I have version 1.13 but from what I've read Ver. 1.18 is available. Is this for the PC only or am I missing some steps. Sorry if it's been covered but I couldn't seem to sort it out.
    Thanks for any help.

  2. Someone has written a mac OS X flasher. You have two options. You can use the official Pioneer firmware here: http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/computer/firmware.html or you can use the hacked firmware that enables you to extract at full speed and burn any media at any speed (upto the max of the drive). That firmware is here: http://forum.rpc1.org/viewforum.php?f=10&sid=0b2362ff290dcd740faef12125850aef

The OS X drive flash utility is here: http://homepage.mac.com/asaxton/FlashIt_Kit.zip

  5. Thanks, It looks like it worked. I'll have to get me a -RW tomorrow and try out 8x.

  6. A word of warning.... If you burn a -RW at the wrong speed ( greater than its recomended ) there is a VERY VERY VERY high chance that you will kill the disk..

It happened to me , so go carefull.

  7. I thought I'd try an 8X speed at 4x to see if it works. Then try it at 8x. I figured I'd use a -RW so I could write over it. I guess I can find -RW at x8. Thanks for the warning.

I to burned a -rw faster that its 1x rating i picked best turns out it picked 8x and i am sad to say my rw is no longer with us. So if the -rw says 1x or 2x burn only at what is recommended or you will kill it for sure.

  9. So a slower speed won't hurt just if I go over the rated speed of the disc? Do they even rate a -rw at 8x? Again thanks for for all the info and advice. This is a great place to get help.

Never heard of 8x but think they do come in 2x and 4x atleast in the -rw format i think this is the case.
Yes i would say not to push it on the rw just leave the fast burns to write once media.
