Problems getting 5 channel sound in ac3 file

Hello,
I have tried different ways to get a working ac3 file from an avi and finally succeded, I´ve used virtualdub to extract a waw-file, renamed it to ac3 and fixed it with different programs, for example Besliced.
But I still have a problem.
The ac3 files doesn´t have 5 channel sound although the avi-file does (at least according to Avicodec and Gspot).
How do I get 5 channel sound in my ac3 file?
Hoping for an answer. I´m going nuts on this 5 channel conversion.

Why do you think the output isn't 5.1?? From what you describe, it should be...

When I play the ac3 file in the DVD player, I only have sound in the two frontside speakers (the ones 2 channel sound use).
But in the other three speakers I only have a buss.
Is the sound in those channels to low?
Is there a program I can use to enlarge the sound in the dirrerent speakers?
