    I picked up 2 25-spindles of 8X DVD+R Memorex blanks yesterday at Best Buy, since they were on sale for $19.95 a piece. My burner (NEC ND-1100A) only supports 2.4/4X burning, so I figured I'd just burn them at 4X speeds. Well, Nero will only allow me to select 2.4X speed, it won't even show 4X at all. I can normally burn at 4X speeds with 4X media, so why can't I with 8X media? Doesn't make since to me.

    It sounds like your firmware can't recognize the media which is not suprising since it was not in existence when your drive was made. You need to check an NEC website to see if there is a firmware upgrade. If not, you need to get an idea from NEC as to what media your drive supports and stick with that.
