We keep getting collection calls for the former phone # owner. We have told them five times they have the wrong number. We tell them we got it last June so check your records. They just called and I told them this. She says,oh yeah your right we have that record.I ask why are you calling then? She says"shit happens and hangs up.WTF.
so
1. call back and talk to a sup. prob not worth it.
2. do not call list report? we are on it and it has been great. Big fines for those that ignore it.
3.fcc?
4.Better business bureau. only have a phone # so ,I dont know what state to complain to.
Any thoughts?

I say have fun with em. They'll get the point eventually. You should be able to call your local Directory Assistance or an operator to find out what state (and probably city) the calls are coming from since you have the area code.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
sue them in small claims court. you will get at least $1200.....

Ah skip tracers, it's a bitch of a job(did it in university)and it's likely this persons file has been passed around to more than one tracer, she's just looking for a lead, some people do occasionally lie you know.
If on the other hand the same person has called you, go further(Option 1) because she does not believe you are telling the truth.
Just shut up and listen dumbass -

Actually I choose #1. Called back and talked to the sup.Very nice. The operator who called erased our number so we couldnt search that way. We did find out who called. The sup said she was going to place a complaint with upper management. I got the name of the business and location(local). I am still going to lodge a complaint with the BBB.

I have the same isht happening to me ...well at first when they call and say is mrs or mr so-and-so ( you should already know their name by now ) dont say no ,,,,,,get their first and last name first then ask for a Sup. and then tell them to update their records and take you off their calling list, get their address and write them a letter to do the same ( make sure the Sup. know you are going to do this, certify the letter , have someone sign for the letter ) if they dont listen they will be state and federally f--ckd ...Good Luck 8)

I don't know how much the BBB can do as you're not an existing client. Aren't phone companies supposed to have a disconnected line held without use for 90days with that voice that says "this number has been disconnected"? That used to be a general rule to weed out most of the old callers to a certain number. My parents have had the same phone number for 35+ years. Just recently someone called and asked fo Joe So-n-So (who nobody's ever heard of). They tell the person they don't know who that is and they must have the wrong phone #. The person repeats the number back to them and my parents say, "the number is correct, but you must have written it down wrong. We've had this number for 35+ years." The person says, "it's a number in my computer's phone cue that's been verified to Joe So-n-So and this must be his telephone #." My dad asks my mother to get off the line and then he speaks to the guy calmly afterwards saying, "Listen here. I have lived in the same town for over 60 years, same home for over 25 years and have had the same phone # for over 35 years. If you are calling this number for someone who we have never heard of then you have an error in your system. If you don't believe me then you will get your supervisor for me. If you hang up I have your name and the company you work for from your introduction and I will have it settled that way. My suggestion is you remove this number from your system and move on to the next call, because if the next voice I hear is yours and is not a supervisor or manager I will personally make sure that you and the company you work for will be held accountable for harassment." [hold music plays immediately] A new voice comes on after a few minutes and stating, "we apologize for the inconvenience. This is a collections company attempting to reclaim a debt in the name of Joe So-n-So and I've been informrmed some of the information we have is incorrect. May I have a moment of you time to correct it as this may affect your credit rating if it is not rectified?"
My father replies, "No, you may not. First, you have the wrong phone number. Second, you have the wrong person and I will not give you any of my personal information. You should be able to figure a third reason to be that anything you divulge to me, if I am the incorrect person, would be considered an illegal privacy practice. Since we are at an impass, I would suggest you attemp to contact Joe So-n-So by other means, remove this number from your list. Go wreck this other person's credit and leave me alone. Thank you for calling." [CLICK] -
