There is one permanent Vienna hot dog stand about 30 miles or so away. My brother goes there quite alot but I think that the guy keeps odd hours. Southern pizza just plain sucks! I mean I eat it and some is OK but it ain't what I was weened on. We make our own beef sandwiches. You take for granted that you have some of the best museums in the US. I saw King Tut in Chicago if that tells you how long ago I was there. Yes there are some nice things here, but it is one of those the grass is always greener things

  4. Which came 1st? vegemite or marmite? We have
    both here.

As for muffins, yeah sliced in half and toasted with cheese or jam on top. What's an American muffin? Like a sweet cake? We have those
as well and also call them muffins. I love blueberry muffins!
We have a starbucks here in Melbourne but I always
prefer Italian coffee and have never tried their products.

    @ Conquest10

Don't you have 24hour restaurants and takeaways?

What is vegemite? I was at a bar one time and this Australian chick was hitting on me and she told me what it was, but that's the one thing from that night I can't remember

Yeah but not around here. If I do go to one of them, they'll be no way of getting home unless I want to spend more on a taxi than what I spent on food.

I like english muffins with some strawberry preservatives.
A classic Mexican snack: toast with caramel spread. Delicious.

  10. ZAPPER yeah you are close. The English stye muffins are similar to the
McMuffin but thicker and more bread-er. We have cup cakes, but
muffins here are denser than a cup cake and are mostly twice the size.

    Thayne,

Vegemite is a yeast extract. It is black, very salty and yeast like to taste and comes
as a spread you can put on dry biscuits, bread with butter and
toast which is my favorite. Only buy a small amount as you
spread it very thin - more like in patches. A thick vegemite spread
will make you sick - instantly.

As a rule of thumb, get a dime and dip 1/4 of it into the vegimite. That
will cover a slice of bread with butter or marg.

That sucks. I guess rice is better for you anyway. Ever had tuna and
    rice?

take away? US =carry out or to go
24 hour restaurants, Not too many since cocaine has gone out of fashion. We all got older and can't party like we used to or can't afford it. Don't get me wrong, the new coke is crack, but not too many crack heads are into late night dinning(spellcheck)

Hey as long as I have some of you guys lurking about I have a question. What do you call it when you crack a raw egg into a beer? I mean the name of the drink. About two weeks ago I saw it in at least three differnt movies. "Tommy" was one And I can't remember the others. But it seems like one was an old movie and the other fairly new. Only one other guy at work has ever even seen this in real life and it was long ago.

Umm, I would call it gross!

    Redeye?

The original “Red Eye” was a mix of beer, tomato juice, Tabasco
    sauce and a raw egg

No idea what a raw egg in beer is called.

  19. OK here are some pics to clear up british potato based snacks.

Crisps, what you in the states would call chips

Chips, dont know if you have an equivalent to these or if all yours are french fries but these are much better than french fries. Shown is traditional English fish and chips with mushy peas. Lovely.

    French Fries
The sort of thing you get at Mcdonalds. Not particularly nice.

Potato wedges. Wedges of potato, normally with the skin left on.

Potato Scallop. Could not find a picture of this. It is a large slice of potato, dunked in batter and deep fried. Pretty nice.

Those potatoes served with the fish and chips are what we call "Cottage Fries" or "Home Style Fries".

We have the potato wedges too, but they're not all that common, in my experience.

Those are delicious. Here you can get them at the corner hot dog stands.

KFC sells some. Very good. Not exactly as Craig describes them. They dip the wedges in the same herbs and spices as the chicken.

  29. Marmite is yeast extract, same as vegemite (I believe). Vegemite is just a step thicker than marmite.
