Hey everyone, haven't been here in a while, but I've got a problem. I downloaded the free version of Avid DV, and when I open it and try to import an AVI file, I get a message saying that the format is not supported.

The AVI file is a 20sec video, filmed with a prosumer camcorder, and it's in PAL (720 x 576). I get the same message on every file I try to open.

    HELP

if you are taking about divx or xvid (not sure as there are over 50 types of avi files and you didnt give much info on what type) , i don't think avid supports importing them - not sure ..

but generally avid anything is very poor at importing most file types ...

It's just a normal PAL DV (encoded with Microsoft DV) video at full resolution 720 x 576, sampling rate of 4:2:0 (PAL). I wanted to try and import some NTSC footage to see if that works, but I don't have any.

I'm used to Premiere and Premiere Pro, but I decided to try something else, and see how it works. Someone recomended this to me, and said that it had the best colour correction tools.

    Thanks

the free version doesnt have color correction at all .. and only renders to one type of quicktime ... not to usefull ... dosn't even have a preview .

you can see what it is missing here:
