oh i love how im warned by a PC mod b/c im bashing PC's.... anyways there are two reasons that i havent responded to the comment regarding 500$ mac.. theres a reason those PC's are 500$, you get what you pay for, a 500$ PC is a piece of junk, just like if Apple made a 500$ mac it would probably be a piece of junk. i also have a life outside of this forum.

How about you get some NEW ideas why PC's are "better" lets rehash what is OLD and outdated about 99.99% of PC users arguments..

1) more games

i could care less that is why i have a ps2

2) more people have them, (yeh and there are more ants on the planet then humans, im sure that means they are superior, right?)

3) you can get them cheaper

yes i would like to see how many years one of those POS 500$ PC's lasts, i have a toaster mac from the first generation that still works, they are built better and they last alot longer, show me a 486 that still works

4) better/faster video programs

yeh thats why i encode mpeg-2 at realtime on my dual 800, i'd like to see how many hours/days a dual 800 pc takes to encode mpeg-2, there is maybe ONE video process that we cant do and thats IFO editing... now tfdvd does it but its too expensive and too obtuse.. so it is still possible

5) people buy them b/c they are pretty..

now this is just the most asinine argument out of the bunch, i could care less what my computer looks like, the fact that its more aesthetically pleasing than those ugly grey boxes (till the advent of PC companies doing HORRIBLE copies of apples great designs) is just a nice addon to the overall great user experience of being an apple user.

i'd also like to not i NEVER have to defragment, i NEVER get viruses, NEVER have to run a virus scan, dont have to do 8 million updates a day to keep my OS secure... oh and lets talk about how many MAJOR upgrades XP has had since its abysmal release, and then lets compare how many MAJOR updates 10 has had since its been released.. i would keep going but at that point i'd be writing an 800 page paper

now how about comming up with some NEW arguments

You have a more obscure os and system. That is why you feel so secure, but there are still viruses and security holes in apple's os.

then lets compare how many MAJOR updates 10 has had since its been released...

XP-1 major update. 2 if you count SP2.
OSX-4? Tiger comming up (Which isn't free)

i didnt flame in that post if you actually read it, i just rehashed the old arguments that PC users have been using for ages to cement their "superiority" and was asking for someone to give me a NEW good reason that PC's are "better"... and clearly with your post you did not do that. now im not saying macs are 100% secure, im just saying that i havent had a virus on any of my computers since about 1995 and I'd like to find ONE PC user that can tell me the same.

i love how it makes PC users feel so superior that they can build their computers, I'd like to see you try and build on of the old or even new imacs, or a G5 for that matter, i'd prefer to leave those things to the professionals and i will never see the reason that makes PC's so "superior"

Like I said, why people get so worked up about computer hardware and media is beyond me.

You were warned for calling members jerkoffs, idiots and brainless and for your general shitty attitude.

And for the record, I still have 6 486's and a couple of 386's going strong at work. Being used for data capture using windows 3.1.

I am not saying pc's are superior. I was just disputing that you don't know what the f**k you are talking about. I have repaired macs before. I am just stating the facts. They are more obscure. Apple only controls about 4% of the market.

I am a professional so what is your point? A mac can still get viruses and security holes. And regardless of wht you think, a $500 pc is pretty good, given the fact my $300 pc that I built is still going strong.

Macs are more expensive(Truth). They are mostly used for education and designers.(Truth). They are proprietary(Truth) and Apple has gotten into trouble for false advertising. The g5 is not the fastest computer.

alright alright i flew off the handle (not the best of tempers) in the end to each his own i'll just leave it at that.... you all clearly have your preference and i have mine, age old argument that will never be resolved and will never end. The virus argument is an old one yes, but about 90% of PC users i know have gotten virii on a regular basis since they have been usin their comps.

And just because i dont agree with your viewpoint doesn't mean i have no idea what im talking about, I am plenty proficient with PCs but i really hate using them, theres next to nothing i like about them and that is my preference.

now im not saying the G5 is the fastest computer ever to exist but it is leaps and bounds better than the G4 and it does significantly crush a good chunk of P4's (maybe not with EVERY program that exists, but with the ones i've done comparisons w/, which mainly is limited to design/web/video editing/conversion) And i have also developed on both platforms (more so on Mac b/c that is clearly my computer of choice), and developing on a PC was a nightmare.. again just my preference.

and in the end i still think alot of people are blinded by the falsely advertised speeds of their P4 processors, if a 800 - 1 gz processor on a mac is supposed to be the same as a 800 or 1 ghz on a PC i'd like someone who owns a dual 800 to do some tests for me and tell me how long it takes to re-encode mpeg-2 video to dvd resolution... i'm going to wager that it is no where near realtime.

I do not use Pentiums at all. They are overpriced. I use AMD processors.
