I do find that MAC has a few things that step forward of PC, and they've been top of the line in graphics for a long while. But the fact that they have limited compatibility, as everyone seems to agree, has seriously stunted the type of growth they could have. I do like the fact that they control pretty much every aspect of their machine's creation (IE: software compatibility, OS, Hardware, etc.), but there is so much more the systems can do. It's almost relied upon people to create their own programming, which is fine, but very few get permission to legally distribute it for money to the public. MAC has the right mindset that if you create programs yourself you can do whatever you want (IE: Burn DVDs & Music, etc.) because it's your computer. But not everyone is so technically gifted and they rely on other programs to help them with everyday work that's compatible with everyone (IE: Mocrosoft WORD, EXCEL, LOTUS, etc.). If you can't be widely compatible there is very little purpose for the system.

(I am aware some of these programs are available for MAC, but they weren't always and it gives some an understanding of what is meant)

It's good for what it is. But I think they'll always be the small fish in the pond. Especially with Linux becoming more popular and people having more options on a 'PC.'

Apple needs to lower their hardware prices to become more competative. I'd love a new 15" PowerBook, but no way in hell will I fork out $2500+ for one...

yeah, but they'll never control the market because they've got 10% of it, which is not a threatning or even decent amount. if they had 60% and they started going proprietary, maybe they'd be taken seriously.

Last time I checked, they only controlled about 4%.

Well this was simply a case of name calling for name callings sake, there was no provocation bar the fact of peoples opinions on macs vs pc. Why some people get so bent out of shape about which computer/media/whatever they use is beyond me. He had already been abusive in an earlier post in this thread which I let slide but this one just compounded it. A lot of us call each other names in friendly banter, thats different. There was nothing friendly about this, the guy was just flaming for no reason and I am pleased to say that no one took the bait. And the fact that some insulting posts like this get missed by the mods does not make it ok for members to post like this in the future.
