A few XviD AVIs I've tried to re-encode with ffmpegX 0.9o are being encoded with improper lengths according to QT and MPlayer OS X 2. The length is correct when viewed with VLC. The original I'm working on now has a length of 1:32:45. I've tried three times using different settings (including 'Decode with/without QT') and I always get an AVI that is reported as somewhere around 57-59 minutes long. The reported length was different in each case, and QT/MPlayer OS X 2 will only play the 57-59 minutes of the movie.
The length of the original is correct when opened in ffmpegX, but when the output file is opened in ffmpegX, it reports the same wrong length as QT and MPlayer OS X 2. Again, VLC reports the correct length on the output file and it plays fine in VLC.
Here is the output from the progress app;

That is displayed in the first minute and nothing else is logged until the end which is usually somewhere around 117%. I've also tried it with a frame rate of 23.976. Suggestions?
Note that QT has problems with the original (artifacts/sluggishness) which is why I'm re-encoding with ffmpegX. The output from ffmpegX plays/looks great in QT, the whole 2/3rds of it I can watch. I plan on converting it to mpeg2 with QT and building a DVD with DVDSP2 when I finally get a movie that QT likes![]()

Check whether ffmpeg engine and mencoder engine give the same result. Also, consider the MOV MPEG-4 preset to obtain directly a QT file instead of AVI.

OK, I'll give it a shot with the mencoder engine in about an hour. I was using the ffmpeg engine previously.
I also tried removing the XviD components from QT and tried the XVIDDelegate.component, 3ivx D4 4.5.1, and XviD_Codec v0.1.component for decoding. Same playback results with either one, green artifacts. I left the XVIDDelegate.component uninstalled and tried Exporting to MPEG-2 with QT using the 3ivx D4 4.5.1 component as decoder. So far, I'm 75% finished, past the points where the ffmpeg AVI would stop. The first time I tried it using the XVIDDelegate.component, QT crashed within the first few minutes. Looks like it's going to work this time. And, viewing the incomplete M2V with VLC doesn't show any artifacts present
I think the output from ffmpeg looked better than this 5.5mbps MPEG-2 though

What about that. It worked this time. I used the MOV MPEG-4 preset which still uses the ffmpeg engine and chose to decode with QT. Problem is that the audio ended up about a half second longer than the video causing the movie to lose sync at the end. I fixed that temporarily by extracting tracks and adding scaled to the audio. The original doesn't have sync problems. I don't know what will happen when I export to MPEG-2.
The QT export to MPEG-2 worked also and everything worked great in DVDSP2, no sync problems. And, Damn-it Jim, with all the earlier problems, I forgot that I wanted to add extra's to this DVD so naturally the encoded MPEG-2 is too large
I'm going to export the ffmpeg mov to MPEG-2 and see what happens. I still have the XVIDDelegate.component uninstalled and have no idea if it was causing problems with ffmpegX as well as QT.
The progress stopped at around 124% this time and says;
