I am attempting to convert MPEG-1 video files (I believe the mpeg-1 files must all be vcd compliant mpegs) of Ali G in da USA episodes into compliant files so I can watch them on DVD.
I have used tmpgenc xpress 3 to encode the MPEG-1 video files, and I have selected the template of "NTSC DVD" wit the appropriate aspect ratio (same as the source), since the source files are NTSC encoded.
The output is as 2 elementery streams, m2v and mp2.

HOWEVER, in the encoding process, TMPGEN Xpress 3 has converted the mpeg audio from 44000 to 48000. Is this going to be a problem? Should I have used the BeSweet method instead?

(BTW I'm having trouble checking the output files since my Media Player Classic is playing up... directshow filters maybe... thats another story altogether though hehhe)

    Thanks guys

  2. If you are converting to DVD compliant MPEG1 files then the audio SHOULD be 48000hz. It only needs to be 44100hz for VCD.

    the audio file IS 48000hx...
my question is... I know that some tmpgenc apps are not as good as encoding as others (ssrc, besweet etc)
what i was asking is, will it be safe to encode the mpeg audio stream from the mpeg source file into 48000hz using tmpgenc xpress?
Or is Besweet the preffer option?
    thanks for your reply

    WTF?

Dude, if you're using an Australian keyboard or something, turn it back rightside up. Either that or put away the Foster's.

But to answer your original question, don't bother converting your MPEG-1 files to NTSC-DVD files. You won't gain any quality (can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear), and VCD MPEG-1 is already DVD compliant, except for the audio, which must go from 44.1 KHz to 48 KHz. TMPGEnc DVD Author will do that for you automatically when you author your files with it. Try that and save yourself a lot of useless conversion time. Good luck!
