I wouldn't call him back. I'd blacklist him, and notify the police so they can give him a call back. Nobody should be that abusive to staff and be allowed to get away with it.
If the hard drive was duff and needed replaced, it was his fault for losing his data - he should have backed it up. Idiot.

Mentalcase, sounds like he should be in a white padded cell. And what sort of Idiot has 2 years worth of work just stored in one place. No symapathy whatsoever.
My current work project is stored in 5 different locations. Hard drive on my PC at work, Networked backup drive, DVD, USB storage pen and home PC. And I update the backups each time I do any more work to the project. -

How do you tell a family member nicely (so they don't think you are insulting them) they dont' need a zip drive for backups when they have a CD burner?

Hello,
menes777- Seriously though, just tell them you can get cd-rs for pennies apiece and will hold several times the amount a zip will and that should do the trick.

I know you were joking Yoda
This same family member thought that to actually record a record to CD (setting up the a vinyl record player to the sound card), that you had to play them both (cd and the record) at the same time (way old school thought pattern there, but I can still remember doing it!). :P
At first I thought that they wanted portability but I looked up the prices of some external CD-R drives and they are still as cheap as a ZIP drive + media.
