I have Works 4.5 installed on my 98SE side of my dual booting computer with XPPro on my other harddrive, is there a reason why it won't install on the latter? When I try to install I get : D:Windows\System32\AutoEXEC.NT "The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Applications" I'm computer illiterate but is it because it is too old to run on XP and I have to buy a newer version?
If so, then do I have to buy the latest Microsoft Works 8 or can I buy an older version that might be cheaper but would still work with XP? Is this stuff discounted anywhere? Thanks!

Don't know why you've got the problem. I've got Works 4.0 installed and working perfectly under XP Pro. I just put the install CD in and it installed. Works is pretty horrible for just about everything but I've got a very old database that was originally written under Works 3 for DOS that I can't be bothered to convert to Access.

BJ_M I guess I don't know exactly what search to put in on your link, I've tried several but don't come up with anyone talking about problems installing 4.5.
I'm also running XP Pro, it actually brings up the Wizard and goes halfway through before I get error screen. -
AutoEXEC.NT <--- search for this in combo with "ms works" and "microsoft works" and also search for that error you got
lots of hits
sorry cant help you more"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I've decided to go ahead and buy some new software either Microsoft Works 8 or Corels WordPerfect, do they both pretty much do the same thing? Is one better than the other? I just need to do simple things likes word processing and resumes.

You don't have to buy anything. http://www.openoffice.org/ Not sure how compatible it will be with your current docs but you can give it try. I use Word but a lot of the software I use requires it (e.g. financial software) For creating simple docs that should be more than sufficient.

Thanks thecoalman I'll give it a try. While trying to install OpenOffice it says it needs Java to run properly on my computer (whatever that is) and could not find it. I've actually heard of Java and I thought all computers had it, but if I don't how do I get it?

Thanks I installed OpenOffice but wasn't quite what I was looking for, I liked the simplicity of Works 4.5. I'll keep looking.
