I may have just lucked out by looking through the Sunday paper for stuff. Found this TV stand which the dimensions seem good and the color looks like it would match the rest of my furniture since everything is a darker wood tone. I'm going to check it out after work today.

Hmm, very nice. I'm not usually one to go for the box sets like that but that one looks nice.

I'm saving for a 10 speaker Bose system. I have 1/10th the cost already. Need to save another 3 years. :P I have 2 Bose satellite surround speakers already. I figure I'll purchase the complete set as time passes and as I can afford it. No rush as I already have a Home Theater. I just Want the Bose system at some point in time.

I'm hooked on Boston Acoustics stuff..... Polk is very sweet as well - had some of their automotive stuff in a past car....

One thing I was told many moons ago was to spend at LEAST half your budget on your speakers - they make or break the entire set up - be it mobile or home theatre.

I've listened to Polk too, but the problem is that the similar unit speaker when put to the test litterally blew before a Bose speaker would. I have a friend that's returned 2 Polk units and finally got a Bose as a replacement because he would constantly blow the Polk Speakers. He's had the Bose for 2 years now without problem. He's the one that got me the 2 Bose speakers I have now. They were throw-ins because he had returned the other 2 systems. He used all the standard equipment that came together as a bundle. Still the speakers blew. Hasn't had the problem with the Bose and he can crank them louder than the Polk without them ever blowing.

I had a set of Boston Acoustics in my old car... they were very nice and lasted forever. The only reason I don't still have them is they don't fit in my new car.

no- i have dealt with BOSE on a professional level in he sound re-enforcement market and their dirty underhanded business practices they are famous for--

plus the stuff they are WAY overcharging people for -and the stuff they put forth as gospel ...

But what about the quality of the speaker. I don't doubt they overcharge. You can tell by the cost. But who's stupid enough to pay full price for anything when you can find places that offer it for a more reasonable cost. I could get the Wave system for $60 brand new, but I don't feel like picking it up myself from a warehouse in Calif.

you can get better for the same cost ... if you dont mind the price , the little mini cubes are alright ... i would not take any of the 601 or 901 clones .. the 321 system is a major rip off (and i suspect not selling well as there often huge discounts on it around here)

All I want are the cubes. I have an excellent Subwoofer, I'm not parting with. I haven't checked out a Bose system in a store in over 5 years. I just know what my friend has, and he got his as a replacement. Not sure which system it is, but he paid for a low end Polk system and got a high end Bose for his troubles. My subwoofer is part of my Panasonic HT system. It's not the greatest system, but they don't make it anymore. The clone system that uses the same surround speakers uses a weaker subwoofer and Center speakers. The only way to get the Better Quality Subwoofer is to buy the high end HT system that doesn't offer the multi disc capabilities. The high end system also only goes to 0 DB. The system I have goes to 12+. And I haven't blown a speaker on it yet. However, the rear 2 are not the original satellite speakers. They are the Bose cubes.

that statement doesnt make any sense without a reference or scale type ..

12dB is a huge change ..... that is 4 times the volume ..

Have to agree with BJ_M, we have a bose system downstairs (free from a fucked up relation. he bought a house, filled it with stuff, decided it was too scary to stop living with his mum and dad, so gave away his stuff, sold the house and bought a jaguar. then he got caught doing 104 in a 70 zone, got banned, and sold the jag. he's a twat.) and it sucks balls. i can't believe how bad the redirection of noise is, the cubes never seem to be active, always just the stupid sub unit. kind of ruins the point of surround sound. and don't get me started on music, the kitchen boombox sounds better than the strained slap dash overblown bose system. You get better overall enjoyment from two small but decent speakers (which also take up less room than that giant ugly sub unit) than that excuse for a surround setup.

If you assume 0db (as opposed to say -16dB) means simply passing the signal from source to power amp without reducing the volume at all, then 12dB means you're overdriving your amp all the time. no wonder speakers get blown......

The system shows 12DB as it's high and -82 as the low. at 0 they are the same in intensity and both low out at -82. My system goes higher in volume to 12DB. I don't think it's Decibels though. I think it's some other unit of sound. What, I am not sure of. Maybe passing the signal is 0.

    EDIT: Just noticed Flan's comment.

markings on consumer equipment are rather meaningless anyway ...

about as useful as speaker ratings

Ture. All I know is that the speakers I have are excellent. My Subwoofer and system are great. And I want more of the Bose speakers (the cube ones). My friend had Polk and it crapped out twice. I just want something I can play loud and clear without it blowing out inside 10-20 years.

I've had some big speakers too, butI've gotten some better sound from smaller speaker, depending on the material. The only thing I really care that is large is the subwoofer. I run a sound test on my speakers checking the cycles. At one track, if I have the right subwoofer, You can just barely feel the low and if you listen to it for too long it might make you feel a bit queezy.

    Hello,

I was over at a friends house for part of the superbowl. Get this:

He put his subwoofer ON TOP of his cabinet!

He said he moved it there to make room for the christmas tree. He hasn't moved it back yet. Supposedly he said since its in a corner up in the air it actually bounces the bass out into the room.....

Not sure I ever heard of a subwoofer being HIGHER than the tv.... Didn't have time for a demo unfortunately.... But if it works for him all the power to him

Since when does christmas tree placement supercede the home theater experience?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
