    just installed my fw card.Manual states that xp should recognize the new device on power up.no dice. troubleshooting tips.
    1.card inserted snugly-yes
    2.ports active on the card conflicting with the equiv ports on the pc.

    How do I check #2?

    Did anything at all pop up when you first powered on the system after physically installing the card? Also, check Device Manager and see if you see anything new, or anything with a Question Mark.

    Does it show up in the device manager?
    Does it show up in the device manager as a yellow question mark?
    Card manufacture and card chipset?

    we'll work from there first

    Sometimes you just have to make sure it's shoved in there nice and tight. THEN things will start happening the way you want.
