I may start a new thread for R200 inks and carts soon.
We are putting alot of info in this thread, alot that doesn't appy to megatoners and may be missed by many people skipping this megatoner thread.
Basically what I am finding is ink cartriges range from $3.79 (22.74 a set) at megatoners to $12 for real Epsons ($72 a set). Then we get into refills cheap, and also CIS systems. You may think the S is for system, but I find China suppliers call em CISS with two S's![]()
That info is for an $8 replacement from another site.Printer Model Stylus Photo R200
Item # Replacement for T048320
Ink Volume 13 ml
Color type Magenta
Unit Type Cartridge
Unit Condition New
Maximum Yield 430 pages
Quantity 1
Shelf Life 2 years
To answer the question of how many prints from a cartrig, well less than 430! Obviously if you print 8x10 photos of a beuatiful blue sky in full color you will get less pages with your cyans (blues), but probably many more pages for the magentas (reds) since the little red robin in the picture is only 2" compared to 8x10 blue sky![]()
But it might give you an idea, you should get a bunch, and it should cost less than the $3 at Costco each! Even adding $1 a sheet for over priced photo papers.![]()
13ml of ink. Looking at my earlier post you see you can get
# of refills was quoted from the site selling the ink. But we now know a cartrig holds 13ml each. Those above numbers are off, 500ml/13ml= 38.5 cartrigs. Of course when actaully refilling most people probably don't put in the full 13ml, or maybe the actual epson carts hold a little less, or they just averaged most carts are near 10ml? I have had some printers that are only 9ml per cartrig. For refference, ink costs
125ml (12 refills) $12 each color. That's $1 per tank per refill.
250ml (25 refills) $20 each color. That's less than $1
500ml (50 refills) $30 each color. That's getting down to 60 cents per tank!
You can get larger volumes for more savings if you wanted, and probably buy less ink at a higher cost, but with a continous ink system you probably wouldn't want to.
Anyway, 125ml= 9.6 cartiges and at $12 you see that =$1.25 per cartrig or equal amount of ink if using a CIS.
500ml=38.5 = $0.78 per cartrig. 78 cents is pretty low, though not as good as my claim of 60 cents earlier, sorry!
Of course you could buy it by the gallon of each color too and save even more![]()
Since I have not yet refilled or replaced the carts in my R200, I can not honestly say where to get the best quality inks or carts for genirecs.
That megatoners is the cheapest I saw for carts, but I never tried them myself yet.
I have bought ink for my Canon I850 here and am very happy with it.
http://www.ink-refills-ink.com/
That's where I quoted above ink price info from. They do say that the original Epson carts cannot be refilled, I do not know why. They sell generic carts about $8 also, or empty carts they say can be refilled for $11 each. Also they sell the chip resetters too. Free shipping over $30 orders, and if you bookmark the site you get a coupon code to save 5% on less than $50 order, 10% over $50, 15% on $100 order. Link on sites front page right side.
Heck if you don't want to add the site to your favorites for some reason, click the link, when the add to favorites box pops up cancel it, and you still get the coupon code![]()
I bought carts for my Xerox printer here and have been happy with those too.
http://www.quickinks.com
I quoted cartrig info from this site. After the first order I was sent a coupon for I think 10% off next order. Also I set up as an affilate too for my website, I think I got 15% per sale. Using my own link and the coupon I saved 10% on my orders, then got a check latter too. If you have a website you might want to try this with alot of companies! I have saved much money lots of places on my own orders! Not cheating, if I used someone elses link they would get paid, so why not use my own and get paid? Their price for R200 carts are about $8
mediastreet.com has been recomended to me also for more professional quality inks. They have a great selection of specailty inks and papers, probably alot better quality inks in general though a little higher in price.
They have CIS systems for several types of printers including the R300, which is the same as the R200, their price was $269 ink sold seperately.
Actually for that price I would build my own CIS, but they do have good prices on great inks, though higher they are a brand name type ink, not no-name genirecs.
I have not ordered here yet. But will soon for specail inks and papers like Dye sublimination, UV resistent etc...
Refilling empty new carts or using a CIS system you do have options to do other things with other types of inks! I will be setting up a profesional shop latter for Shirts. I may try the R200 for some of those.
On the CIS and carts chips. There are 3 types I found so far other than epsons! One is a epson replacement same as an epson chip and you need the chip resetter when refilling. Another type Auto Resets when you take it out of the printer, use this for refilling carts without a chip resetter. It reads the ink level like an Epson chip untill taken out, so you always know your ink levels. The last type is an auto reset chip that resets when you power off the printer! This chip resets to full when the power is turned back on. This type should be used in a CIS if you buy one! With a CIS and this chip, you carts are always full but the Epson reads the level of your ink as a normal cartrig, the more you print the less ink it shows even though your carts are always full. After alot of contuous printing Epson may show status of ink getting low, just power off the printer for a few seconds and back on, and the system reads full again.
I hope some of the info I provided helps people in some way. Myself I have found sources for Auto reset chips, but have not got prices yet or what volume I have to buy in to get them. Maybe I'll check into that next week. Anyone wanting to mail me empty real Epson carts like what came in the printer? I don't have an empty set to play with here.
Also any types of empty generic carts for R200.
If anyone wants to mail me empty carts (you pay postage, maybe a buck) I'll see if I can refill them and see if they work. If your going to toss em out anyway might be worth the cost of postage to see what we can learn. If I come up with a simple cheap solution out of it, I'll let you know, and it might save you money. If not, well your out postage of about $1 maybe.
I would offer to pay postage, but it's a just about a dollar each for you guys, but if 20 of you send em, then it's $20 to me for something I may not even be able to use![]()
Plus it would cost extra money to send the $1![]()
PM me for an address to mail them to if you want to send them.
Also another note on sending me carts. If I find low cost auto reset chips and an easy way to refill the tanks, I'll sell em back to you full at cost of the Mods (chips or whatever) if you want. And include any needed instructions for you to refill them yourself.
So it "MIGHT" be a really cheap way for you to get a full set of carts, or maybe even a CIS system in the future???
Just a thought, up to you. Nothing ventured nothing gained, and only a buck to lose! I should be gone most of the weekend, so I may not reply back till Sunday or Monday, unless latter today.

I have bought from megatoners for a while, great product great price. I still have a lot of new carts, you never know when you will need em' , I now own the CIS system from JLW, it saved me over $100.00 off the bat, it really depends on your budget right now, I could not get the CIS when I really needed it but rather bought a fresh set from megatoners. Either way it is the same quality prints and very cheap. Do not expect the same quality as oem ink carts though. I highy recommend megatoners.
They are GENERIC carts. But nice product.
I think megatoners are the best deal out there right now, so I stay with a sure thing. 25 bux for a complete new set of carts, vs. NEW OEM Epson carts @ 80 bux. It IS a no brainer.
