I'm waiting on a full 3-D sound immmersion system that incorporates speakers underneath and above the viewer. It would create a whole new era of more realistic 1st person films (that and the THX for olfactory spec). Of course no one is willing to pay to create material to make use of it.

    BASTARDS!!!

Given the type of movies I watch I would NOT want to smell them

    Hello,
ViRaL1- I'll agree with your desire for an enhanced surround setup with a modification. I'll be happy with a 360 degree speaker alignment. I don't need top and bottom just yet. I'll be happy with a 360.1 receiver setup that completely encases the viewing room.

This setup would include a swinging speaker gate so that one could enter the room. This would then latch shut so that complete immersion will be acquired.

Let's see, 100,000 watts should be enough!!!!!

7.1 doesn't really exist. the two centre rear speakers will make the same noise, unless the receiver re-jiggles the sound to try and guess a rear centre left and right by comparing the surround left and right. 7 speakers is suitable in a large room to make the centre rear soundfield larger.

  9. Got it in one Flan

The only real differences would be in Matrix, discrete and PLIIX

  10. Heres my set-up:

    3 front (L,R, and center)
    1 SW in front.
3 Behind listener (Surround L,R, and center) the center is hooked up to the surround back left channel. This part is confusing becuase the Back surround left and right speakers are hooked up to the reciever surround channels and not the surround back channels even though the speakers are in back. Sound right?? I think the surround back reciever connections are for the extra 6.1 and 7.1 speakers.

I have a Sony STR DE995 reciever so I run it in Matrix to get the 6.1 out of the 5.1ch. DVD's.
