Just got this box of tricks.. i remember someone talking before about how you shouldn't use the same signal type for input and ouput.. but when i use composite for either in or out it shows tons of intererence? It's not really a cheap lead either.. what gives?

The best thing at the moment is svideo in and out, but as mentioned before this introduces a certain amount of degradation too. The leads i've tried on the composite are a dirt cheap simple phono wire which results in lots of wavy interference and a hi quality shielded ofc which shows less of that but still quitre a lot. They're clean etc.. when i rig it that way i have svideo from the 9800 to the AVT and composite from that to the F1 front input composite connector on the front of the DR-M1.. anything wrong with this? Can't see why i'm getting such a poor signal over composite..
