I wish you could create images bigger than 4.7g. That would be a nice update to CAPTY. However, just to tell people. I have taken some captures made and image and ran it through DVD2one made those clips smaller and then reimported them back to PixeDV and had some really good results. I have been capturing at a really good quality and then running it though DVD2one and gaining about 1/4 the room without noticing a difference in quality. I have taken 3.9g of clips and shrunk those to 3g. "I haven't noticed a difference" but then again I am not an expert at noticing. Thats an extra 30min to hour depending on your capture. It came in handy when I just needed to squeeze and extra 30min on one DVD last week.

Just and idea. Takes a little while.

  2. Good information. By the way, what bit rate do you make your captures (4, 4.5, 5, 5.5 or 6)? The lower you go, the more space you can fit. Quality goes down the lower your bit rate, of course. Thanks.

I am in wintel land so the software used is different but the functionality of IDVD device should be the same.

For playback of dvd to standard tv, you should be albe to safley lower the resolution to 1/2 D1 (352x480 ntsc) which allows a lower bitrate/longer capture while maintaining good quality

I have been doing the nbc ch 4 coverage using 352x480 at 2mb/s vbr and the authored dvds look good to me. Fits 4 1/2 hr. + some per dvd

Based on others suggestions on this site I am using 4.5 VBR now. Looks good.

I have to admit I haven't given the lower resolution a chance. Did it once or twice. Maybe I should give it an honest chance.
