DVD to DVSoft ?

I want to convert small clips from a DVD to an AVI that I can edit in Pinnacle Studio 8. My videos are normally encoded with DVSoft while I'm editing them, but I would use any codec that would keep the quality of the dvd. I tried using DVD2AVI, but when I tried to save it, the output file was 0k. I tried AutoGK, but I think it wants to convert the entire dvd to an avi. Is it possible to convert small sections of a dvd to a full quality avi?

Nevermind, I used the Xvid codec and the quality is good with DVD2AVI. I still have to convert it to a DVSoft avi with VirtualDub because the Xvid video won't let me step through each frame.
