srt and sub file but not idx for adding perm subs to mpeg

ok i want to add permanent subs to a mpeg file
but i dont have a idx file only a srt or sub file

is there any way to create one ?

you don't need idx for permanent subs. srt or sub will work just fine.

but when i load them with the vobsub plugin in virtualdub i cant change colors or even press ok
why is that then ?
