  1. HELP!!!!!!

My brand new not even a month old Panasonic DMR-E85 won't function. I put in a cheap DVD-R, a Sonic brand from shop4tech with a little star on it and got a U99 on my display. And at first when I hit power the tv would come back on for about 10 seconds, then the tv guide would pop on and then it would go to a black screen with U99. And now after trying it, it just goes straight from standby/self check to U99. Can anyone help me?? What should I do????? If I haven't gotten any ideas or help by morning I am taking it to Best Buy as they have fixed my previous DVD recordeers just fine.

You get what you pay for you spend $500.00 on a dvd recorder and use $.25 dvd blanks .I am not trying to be mean but all panasonic dvd recorders are picky with cheap media. I use ritek g04 or sonys for my DMR-E80H.And finally you might have to return that unit and get an exchange.

Yeah I am not using those anymore IF I get my recorder working again. What type blanks do you recommend I use?? Any ideas on my "U99" problem, should I just take it to Best Buy, let them keep it over night and pay roughly $50-$60 for them to fix it??

  6. I just bought a DMR_E85H last Saturday and start to use it since Sunday.
I have made two recordings (from video tapes to DVD-R), that work OK.
I have also set TIMER recording using the TV guide. That sêems to work OK too.
In the middle of last night, the unit shows U99 (I powered it OFF before going to bad), and then it seem to reboot itself as I saw the SELFCHECK message there. After that, the unit seem to be fine.
I am very puzzled about this U99.
Sound like there is a new firmware to download to address this issue.
    Can someone confirm.
    Thanks

    Hi there,

I thought I had read this somewhere before and here it is:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=258254&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=u99

The first link has a link to another page of a user who might have found the root cause/possible solution.

As I said in the original post, I do not have a recorder, I found these while doing research on some units.

    Hope this might help some.

    Start a new post.
    Don't hijack somebody else's.
Especially if it's more than a year old.
