I'm stuck with 3 spools of those lousy Memorex DVD-R's that Memorex nor Best Buy will not accept for a refund (past 30 days).
They have frozen up and created coasters in my Sony-DRU500 and Toshiba laptop burners.
Now, worst of all, they're wreaking havoc in my Panasonic DMR-HS2 tabletop recorder. I put the DVD-R in and in a few minutes the "DVD" button started flashing, no error messages. I was in "HDD" mode but now everything is frozen and doesn't work. I can't even shut off the power (I finally unplugged the unit but after recovery, it's right back to the same frozen state).
Does anyone know how I can get the DVD-R tray open without breaking something? None of the controls work at all and the unit is totally locked up. The odd thing is that last year, I used to buy the very same Memorex DVD-R's in jewel boxes and never had a problem. These spools are absolute crap and nothing but trouble.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  2. I don't know about that particular unit, but sometimes if you just keep pushing the open button it will open. Keep pushing the button right about the time it's about to come out of recovery. I've seen other people complaining about the same problem, a couple said they had to open it up to get the disc out.

    Memorsux again.
Most recorders usually have a slot under the drive opening that a long thin screwdriver type of object can release the drawer. It may NOT actually open the drawer for you....you may have to gently and slowly open the drawer the rest of the way. If you force it...the sync will be off between the tray and the rest of the mechanical doo-dads...

  6. Hello

Been there, done that. Patience. Unplug the DMR HS2. Wait about ten to fifteen minutes, plug the unit in. Do not put the unit on--hit the open close button. This should open the tray while powering the unit. If this does not work, turn the unit off and try again. This may requie the unit being unplugged again. The open close button needs to be activated before the unit enters the recovery mode and locks everything up.

I had this happen with severl Khypermedia discs about two years ago.

    I hope this helps.
