I capture from ATI AIW "tvshow.mpg". The tv show is wide screen 16:9 format and ATI captures it at 4:3 on "DVD high" setting. The comercials are at 4:3 and looks fine. The 16:9 tv show has the top and bottom black area. I then demux to get "tvshow.m2v" & "tvshow.mp2". Then I use cuttermaran to edit the comercials out. I use DVDAuthorgui to DVD format. The ouput on the tv yeilds a double black area on the top and bottom. Its not to noticeable but the topmost black area is black and the next black area has a white specles on it. Its from the original 16:9 black area. My question is "Is there a way to remove the top and bottom black area without reencoding?" I tried using avisynth 2.5 "crop()" and I had problems with the syntax and codec. I tried to install all the codecs acording to the "how to" articles. I got them to work but not the sound. But even if I got the sound, I still have to reencode. If I capture the tvshow to AVI, would definately have to encode. Does anybody know a hoy to to get rid of the top and botom black area from an "mpg" file? Or Is it possible to do? How do you all get the tv show in 16:9 format to show on your wide screen without the black areas and on 4:3 tv with the black areas? I appriciate all of your replies. Thank You.
