  1. I have a Directv/Tivo (Philips 704). I have RCA cable going from it to Video Capture Card on my Computer. What is best software to use to pull a Video off Tivo and Convert to DVD format? I see there a Pinnacle Product and a Ulead one. Any thoughts or comments on the way to go?

    Thanks

Hauppauge comes with it's own software that works fairly well for their cards.

  5. Yes it does but I think have to then convert it to DVD format. I was wondering if there is a Program and Captures and convert at same time. I maybe wrong and I'll check what software came with this Tuner.

    Thanks

    Hello,
If your saying what I think you are you have to AUTHOR any thing you capture. You get a mpeg or avi file after recording. You have to turn that into something a dvd player will understand (unless it plays mpg files, some do). This is called authoring and theres no way around it. It turns your mpeg into a video_ts folder with vobs in it.

  7. OK...Thanks Yoda that was what I was talking about. I got all the programs I need to do what has to be done. I was just hoping that maybe there was one out I didn't know about that maybe did it all in 1 step.

    Thanks again all

There are some packages which take you through the various stages to burning a DVD, but capture is definitely a different step than authoring a DVD - it can't be combined (at least yet) because both processes are very CPU/HD intensive and couldn't be done at the same time without losing ridiculously massive amounts of quality. Note that it's usually better doing a capture with the software that comes with the card unless the software is crappy.
