It will do all that it says it will do the problem might be that the disc is dirty or the lens on the drive is dirty clean both and see how it goes. If the disc is real scratched then that might be the problem just like a set top player they dont like scratched media.

hmmm i dont think cleanliness is a problem, i just bought this dvd burner a couple of weeks ago. i have some personal DVDs that i have no problem backing up. it even automatically selects the region for me, and when i pop my friends unscratched dvd in, i have to manually select it. any suggestions?

What region is your DVD drive set to, and what's the drive model number? What's the error message? Was 2.0.1 successful in ripping other DVDs for you? MTR removes all TYPES of copy protection, but is not 100% compatible with every DVD release under the sun (maybe 99.99% compatible). It's possible that it's a damaged or badly mastered DVD, or that your drive is having problems ripping DVDs from other regions, if indeed the DVD is not from your region.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
