Not been using bit torrent long, and just wanted to check if my results are normal. as you can see there's a LOT of inbound and outbound connections, this makes my internet s-l-o-w. as you can see i also end up uploading more than twice what i download. i also get poor download speeds even on torrents with many seeds. any tips to speed the process up?

  2. I'm certainly not an expert, but you might try BitTornado. It's a nice Bit Torrent client that may afford more tweaking.

I have used BitTornado for a while now with great results. I really like that colored button thingy.

  4. I only use bittorrent if I am after a large slightly older file I can't find on IRC. I think my max download was 200k a sec. but mostly I
get 50k or under. I found I had to use Netlimiter in
addition to tweaking the max upload/download settings as I always
got more uploads than downloads at first.

Try MiRC (using www.ircspy.com to search)
or try Shareaza (with all networks selected)

I've had up tp 600k/sec with MIrc and up to 200k/sec with Shareaza.
News might be faster but I don't know any reliable groups/servers.

If you upload speeds are higher than your download speeds you need to lower your maximum upload limit so your uploading doesn't use all of your bandwidth. :P

I always though IRC was a pain in the ass. Qeues are terrible and if you set your client to auto accept (ie you have a long qeue and you won't be there to accept) you get sent a whole bunch of shit. I always seemed to have problems connecting to alot of bots also. If you are going to try IRC try http://www.packetnews.com/ and http://www.ircspy.com/, both are good stuff.

    Two things.

    1) Azureus rules all. Get it, use it, love it.
    2) BT makes tons of connections by its nature. Using Azurues you can limit the number but you usually get faster downloads with more.

  9. IAIHMB,

while your links are informative, your advice re: IRC is in
    need of comment.

    1) You claim auto accept gives you "whole bunch of shit."
Fiirst I have had auto on for 6 months and have only got
2 under 10k files. If it ever becomes a problem I can run a filter.

    2) You say you "always seemed to have problems connecting to bots."
This has not been my experience. I have had maybe six dead bots
out of a hundred as a constant ratio.

    3) You claim queues are terrible. Obviously you have never joined
a group, never used an auto bot and never taken the time to check
queue lengths and swap if necessary.

IRC is not for the novice. If you have a minium of user skills and a high
speed connection then it is an option that should be checked out.

PS. The new version of ABC (when released) may out perform
    Azureus.

I looked into IRC a little bit, but in the end it just wasn't my thing. If some of those groups are forced to give up their users identies I would imagine the RIAA or MPA would have fun picking alot of people off.
