  1. Lately I have been creating dvds from avi video files using ffmpegx and sizzle, but they have all been 4:3 up until now. I now have some widescreen avis that I would like to view on my 4:3 tv at the highest quality possible. I just created a dvd-rw using a 640 by 360 file, and i used the dvd 16:9 preset and 2994 kbit/s for the video in ffmpegx. I then authored in sizzle using 16:9 aspect ratio and burned in toast, but on my tv there was a bit of choppiness. Can anyone explain why and how to fix it? I found this topic: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=634727&highlight=sizzle+widescreen#634727 , but it has me confused since they are talking about letterboxing and all sorts of other stuff you have to do to make widescreen avis to work, when the image seemed to be the right size on my tv other than a little bit of overscan on the sides.
    Any input would be appreciated.

  2. oh and while I'm at it I have a seperate problem that involves adding subtitles. I used ogmtools to create a .avi, .srt, and two .ogg files(one for each language). I was able to convert the avi and ogg i wanted with no problem, but sizzle won't take .srt files and for the life of me I can't find a program that will convert .srt to .sub. I don't want to hardcode the subtitles either so using ffmpegx won't work. Is there an authoring prog other than sizzle that will accept .srt? thanks.

You could drop your widescreen avi onto ffmpegX, choose one of the DVD presets, enable letterboxing in the options tab, then click encode. You shouldn't have to use sizzle at all, just burn the video_ts folder ffmpegX creates. Works for me

I think all TVs, especially inexpensive ones, have some sort of undesired offset. My current TV has the whole picture about 1cm below where it should be if it was exactly centered. An expensive TV would let you adjust this...

Actually, it could be your Av inputs. I have a TV back i the states thats front av ports make everything choppy, but the back one is perfect. If your tv has 2 or more separate ports, try that.
