  1. Hey guys, here's the situation. I'm using pinnacle studio 8 to edit a home video to burn as a graduation gift. However, on the computer screen I play it (before making the actual mpg2 file) all the audio is IN sync, however after I make the mpg2 file (and waiting for a long TIME), the audio is in sync at the beginning, but I noticed it gets pretty out of sync (like 2 seconds), after I get to parts where I used the slow motion feature to slow down the video to get a cool slow motion effect. So basically then the audio is out of sync for the rest of the movie. The settings I used for pinnacle to create the mpg2 file I don't exactly remember too well, but I do remember doing video frame frate as 4250, and the audio was set to 48 Khz i think? Does anyone have any solution how I can fix the outputed mpg2 file so I can author and burn it onto a dvd?

A little more information will help us help you better:
    1) What is the source: is the home video from a camcorder and if so, is it DV or analog video captured from tape? Is it from a VCR playing the cam tape?
    2) What format is the file before you "make the mpg2 file"? .AVI, .MPG, .MOV, etc.?
    3) "4250" is not a frame rate, but sounds more like a bitrate number. Is it?

If captured from camcorder tape, does the camcorder have a built-in TBC (Timebase Corrector)?

Is the sync difference perfect until the slo-mo scenes, then the same delay for the rest of the video, or does the delay just narely start at those scenes and get worse and worse as you go?

  3. Thanks for replying, the source is from DV, in which I captured in windows movie maker I think, then I used tmpgenc to convert it into mpeg 2, so the movie I was working with originally is mpeg 2. Sorry 4250 is bitrate (got terms mixed up) The sync is perfect until slo mo scenes, and I can't really tell if right after that if it goes out of sync, because in my video I don't have anyone really speaking until like a minute after the slo mo scene, but I'm almost positive tht's where it starts.

  4. Is there a way I can use a program that'll let me cut off some audio where it gets out of sync, and just move it up so it's back in sync, I won't mind if there might be little blips because of some splicing. Also my audio consists of the regular audio track from camcorder, and background music I added.

Does the amount of audio delay change as you get farther from the slo-mo point? Or is it a fixed amount all the way to the end after the slo-mo scene? Knowing this will determine which approach you need to take.

  6. It is a fixed amount all the way until another slow mo scene comes in which it gets delayed even further.

The only thing that stands out to me is your editing app choking on it.

    Try this:
D/L a trial version of another app and see if it does the same thing. Browse through the "tools" section (left of screen) and find one to try.

  9. I did another video using pinnacle though, and it worked perfectly, but that one didn't have any slow motion. Isn't there anything i can do to just delete a couple seconds of audio track and sorta slide it over so it matches? thanks

An app like MGEG Video Wizard will work nicely for that without getting into messy demuxing and remuxing The fewer times you "mess" with a video, the better off you are

  12. It is known that Studio8 is much better to edit DV/AVI files than edit
MPG2. I normally use Studio8 to edit DV file first. Then, output the
edited file to DV. Then, TMPGEnc is used to encode the output from
Studio8. I never had A/V out off syn problem. But on the other hand,
I have many problems if I edit MPG2 directily.

No guide on just that app, AFAIK, but the guides are general enough that you can apply the information to any app. Here's the link to MVW:
