I am having some trouble with copying CDs using my new all-in-one DVD/CD writers. I'm pretty sure it can write audio CDs. Anyway, I think the CD is copyright protected and I am trying to back it up. I used Nero to copy and write to a CD-R but the result, there is occassional hiss noises for some reason. It's not the soft hiss but a loud hiss. The original CD had no such problems. Why is this?

So then I used Instant CD+DVD to rip the CD's contents to my hard drive. So now, I have 1 CDI file. I tried to open that in Nero but it won't support it. So I used Instant CD+DVD to create an audio CD and it supports the CDI file. But, it won't let me write because of this error:

A destination device could not be found.

I have selected my DVD drive to write and it writes with success using other programs. This is my DVD drive's model: Sony DW-U18A. It's dual and I'm pretty sure it can do everything...at least I think. It can read CDs and CD-Rs. Help?

That hiss noise doesn't look like a copy protection issue. Try burning at a really slow speed. That sometimes helps me with such issues. Make sure the disc is clean too before burning. I have burned 100s of audio CD copies using NERO 6 without too much trouble. Sometimes copies come out bad because the original was scratched etc.

Thanks. I didn't try it slow but I used dbpowerAMP to convert it to MP3. Man....such a complicated process!
