  3. Two suggestions -
    1) Check your version of Stuffit Expander. Make sure it is up to date.
    2) Repair your permissions.

My upgrade to 1.4 went without incident. Took up right where I left off with 1.3.

  10. Same here, no major incidents in updating to the new version

Well... I had this small icon problem, the icon displaying is the generic application icon... but I guess that a relog/restart should fix it. As for now, everything is working fine (I'm using the update right now)

  12. I've go the same problem, guys. I'm running a iMac 800MHz G4 w/10.2.8. Did as you all suggested, and *poof* instant crash. Repeatedly. <<shrug>> I've already got Stuffit Expander 8.0.2. What to do?

  13. Me too. 10.2.8 with the new DVD2one 1.4 causes it to unexpectedly quit . I have a feeling it doesn't like Jag.

    Panther computer works great.

Did all the precautions. Trash prefs, repair permissions, etc...

Seems like they compiled with the latest Xcode, and forgot to enable 10.2 compatibility (or added some interface features incompatible with Jag). I'd contact them, and ask them to do another build with Jag support, as it should be pretty easy for them. Ask them to add Applescript support while you're at it...

  17. The documentation would seem to indicate that the developers are quite fond of my little application, DVD Imager. Maybe I'll ask for a free registration next time they release a non-free update.

I'd be interested to hear from those who have used the latest version... does it seem to produce "better" results? what settings are you using?

a while ago, when they added "Constant" and "Variable" ratios, it sure created quite a bit of confusion as to when to use which... I wonder if this new engine is gong to be the same way... from their explanation, it sure sounds like it:

"But all encoders are based on different motion detection scheme's, meaning there's NO GOLDEN RULE.

Most of the time setting it to medium will give you a very descent looking output, however with some encoders setting it to low or high might give a better quality output."

    yippee!

How much easier would it be if there was a golden rule it would put an end to all this fuss.

  20. Not that the same engine is involved, but Apple touts its Compressor Variable Bit Rate compression as the best for all types of images, claiming it adjusts for thje content of each frame. I'm not sure if the terms "variable' are the same in both applications. I suspect thety mean the same, but as I said up front different engines give different results.

Does anyone know why Apple's recent update to Compressor is for DVDSP only and not for FCP4? It appears it can't be downloaded without a DVDSP serial number.

While on (off) the topic of Compressor. Will Toast burn a DVD from FCP>compressor MPEG footage. iDVD won't I know, but I've never tried it with Toast 6.
