  1. I have a DVD of three ballets that is region-free and not encripted. I would like to select out one of those three ballets for burning to (S)VCD. I am able to rip out just the three ballets--no menus, extras, etc. The problem is that the ballet I am interestied in capturing cuts across VOBs. So I can't just use DVD2AVI and select out the other VOBs. I have identified which chapters I want. How can I select only those chapters out?

I think DVD rippers should allow you to select any chapters you want to rip. You may end up with 2 vob files but that won't going to be problem loading them to DVD2AVI. Just be sure you select the right chapters.

Another thing you can cut the vob files using DVD2AVI. Those brackets on the bottom right of DVD2AVI are used for cutting.

Yeah just rip by chapter. You can do this by using IFO mode in DVD Decryptor.

Also, if you want to keep the menus but just remove the unwanted ballet sequences, you can do that easily with IFOEdit.

  4. I started from the get-go again using Smart Ripper and selected the chapters that I wanted. After the rip, none of the software (PowerDVD, etc.) would play it. I then tried using the IFO mode in DVD Decryptor, but can't figure out how to select the chapters. I then tried looking for chapter references in IFOEdit, and couldn't figure out how.

  5. I've taken it one step further. I've now again ripped the "movie only". I then used DVD2AVI to select the VOBs and the slider and brackets to select out only what I wanted. I then saved the project to the *.d2v file. I then tried using TMPGenc, but I'm timed out. My Nero 6 won't take the *.d2v file. So I then did it again and "save AVI" from DVD2AVI. The resulting *.avi wasn't accepted either by Nero. What to do now?

    Thanx.

Open your DVD with DVD Decryptor. Hit Mode/IFO. It should select your main movie in most cases. In the box that lists your chapters simply uncheck the ones you don't want. For instance, in this sample pic, DVD Decryptor will only rip chapters 2 through 4. You can see what each chapter contains by simply playing it in a software or hardware dvd player.

  7. Adam,

My DVD Decryptor has Mode/ISOon the menu, not Mode/IFO. My display does not look at all like this. I don't have anything like "Stream Processing" and a display of chapters. I still have the File, View, Edit, Mode, Tools, Help; but all I get in the box on the right side is a list of VOBs etc to select with no chapters.

ComputerNerd. Open DVD Decryptor. Click on the mode option. Select IFO.

  9. Adam. Been there, done that. IFO is not an option. See previous post.
I've accomplished selecting chapters by using Smart Ripper. But I'm curious why my display and selections are different from yours. Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure that all versions of DVD Decryptor have the IFO option. In any case, go to the homepage and make sure you are using the latest version.

Let me get this straight though. You click on the mode option and in the drop down box all that is listed is ISO? There should be three options, FILE, IFO, and the ISO which has a submenu for read and write. I can't understand how these could not be visible.

The shortcut for IFO mode is I. Try hitting it on the keyboard and see if that takes you there.

  11. Adam,
I'm wondering if I have the 3.0.0.11 old Soviet version. I've tried ALT-I, SHIFT-I, and CTRL-I in both u/c and l/c. I'd like to offer a sacrifice to the computer god, but I can't find any virgins around here above the age of 10, and those below can get me a lifetime in the slammer.

Since I've already selected out the chapters (with help) as the title suggests, should this discussion be moved to another forum?

    Many thanx.

Those are not the short cuts. Did you try hitting the actual shortcut that I just told you? Hit the letter I.

If you think you have an outdated version then get a new one. Any remotely recent release from the last few years has the IFO option and its just right there. You can't miss it.

  13. Adam,

    Thanks for your posts.

When I click on Mode, I get only two selections: File, and ISO.

I tried hitting just "I"--nothing happens.

    What about my version?

  14. Adam,

It turns out that I had an older version of DVD Decryptor. I've downloaded and installed the latest one.

Yes, your instructions are correct: select Mode; Select IFO; follow the blinking lights, and the chapter selection comes up. I wish there were a way to de-select all and then re-select only the few that are wanted.

Right click anywhere in the chapter box. Choose select none.

  16. Adam,

Thank you very much for your post. Yes--it works.

To summarize this subject--to select chapters from a DVD:

    1. Use Smart Ripper, and select chapters; or

    2. Use DVD Decryptor, and select chapters as detailed in the posts; and/or

    3. Use DVD2AVI as instructed in the posts. Use the slider to select, the less-than and more-than to fine tune, and the brackets as instructed; or

    4. Any other ripper that floats your boat.

I think this subject has been exhausted. If you know how to close all future posts, please do so. Many thanx.
