I've seen a few posts in the past few weeks reguarding at least two of the popular commercial "1 click video converters". These applications seem to be gaining popularity, and I can understand why! The NoOb downloader wants to convert the latest "Zero Day" Divx download to a format he can distribute or watch on his stand-alone player.
The simple fact is, the "cheap-asses" amoung us now have the programs, available as free-ware to convert any format we want, to whatever format we want (almost). It would be OK if these programs were any good!, but they are NOT. What especially annoys me are the commercial applications that rely on freeware applications as a core component, freeware stuff such as BeSweet, AVISynth, etc... are needed on a number of shareware products, the makers of these should add a condition to the "Terms Of Use" that they must not be a core component of commercial products.[Disclaimer] Not that I or this site condones this type of activity!!! [/Disclaimer]
These "1 click video converters" are BAD!! They seem to concentrate on allowing the user to convert as fast as possilble, not caring about quality!, the trial versions I have tried have the quality of a 56k low quality streaming video... Stear clear of these and use the freeware stuff, this might mean reading a guide or 3, but its worth it!!!
