  1. Over the past week, I've had access to a standalone DVD Recorder and since I've got so many tapes, mainly music performances, I just started recording in SP mode to a DVD+RW, bring them to a PC, and image them. Many are different clips from different bands.

My main question is this: How can I go about splicing in the clips I want on certain DVD's? I just want to get one set of clips from one specific group onto one compilation. I tried using TMPEGEnc DVD Author but it seems to want to use the entire DVD image for a 5min. clip (unless of course, I did it wrong)

Once I tried demuxing, cutting, reencoding and reauthoring, but I seemed to have gotten weird results like obvious interlacing and pixelization. I don't want to have to go back and re-record these clips mainly because they're scattered around and currently I don't have access to the machine. I don't care if it's a hard method, I just want to be able to preserve the video I do have already and not lose much in quality.

    Thanks

  2. I think TMPGEnc DVD Author should work for you, unless I am misunderstanding what you are doing.

However, I use Womble MPEG Video Wizard to do my MPEG2 editing. You can definitely use as much or as little of the contents of any number of recorded DVD's and Womble frame accurately cuts and joins everything perfectly into a new .mpg file for you, without re-encoding (no quality loss). You can try Womble products for 30 days unrestricted for free, too.

Then you can load the newly edited .mpg into TMPGEnc DVD Author to make your final DVD.

  3. Pegasys is going to be releasing an editing program similar to Womble's...

As gshelley61 states above, TMPGEnc dvd author (tda) can do this. If you have space copy all files to hard drive for faster access(in VIDEO_TS folders). Write down your songlist. Open the file with your first song in tda, you will see chapter cut button in upper left. Click. Your entire file will be loaded. Set timeline to where you want first song to start. Click button at bottom left "set as start frame". Now set timeline to end of first song and click on lower right button "set as end frame". this isolates your song as the only file to be copied into final project. Repeat this step for each song adding them to the same title. (If you put them as seperate titles you will have a pause between each title). Once you have all of your songs loaded click ok at bottom right. Create menu, if desired and render project. Good luck

Very nice. But how fast? TMPGEnc had to "rewrite headers" which took forever.

  6. ok... i think i got it to work... my guess was that I used a clip that was too small to affect the "space left" indicator on the bottom. Thanks guys!

    Recommended System Requirements

CPU Pentium4 2.4 GHz, Athlon 64 or better
    RAM 512 MB or more
    Display 1280x1024 or more

That's a bit steep for most people I reckon ...
    If in doubt, Google it.

That's the recommended requirements the minimum requirements are:

    System Requirements

    OS Windows 2000, Windows XP
CPU Pentium III 1 GHz, Athlon MP, Athlon XP or better
    (Providing SSE extension support)
Compatible multiprocessor, Intel HT Technology and SSE-3
RAM 256 MB (512MB or more is recommended)
HDD 10 MB for the program
+ enough space for the input / output files
(NTFS format, 2 GB at least recommended)

I'd rather meet the recommended requirements rather than the bare minimum.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  11. I agree with you jimmalenko; I'd rather have more than the minimum requirements but I believe they recommend higher requirements than needed to avoid as many problems as possible. I would imagine most people are running faster computers than a Pentium III 1GHZ computer or at least I hope they are. I do all my mpeg editing with Womble mpeg-vcr or VideoReDo. Both programs do a great job of editing mpeg files but I have to admit I use VideoReDo more.

I'm still using Womble Mpeg Video Wizard and it works just great on my PIII 1 GHz. Why should I blow another $500 for an updated board, CPU, RAM and case to please Pegasys???
