Best Blank DVDS? No Coasters?

I have been backing up my dvds with cheap dvds and more then 50% turn out freezing.

What is the best DVD I can get that will have like 80% good?
Where could I get it?

Also I own a cheap DVD 4x Burner... I bought at FRYS for $80...

Your best bet is to check the 'DVD Writers' section on this website for your specific writer. There they have compatability ratings with various brands of media.
I personally have a Pioneer 106 and use Prodisc media with pretty good results....

Ritek's G04 Printables are very good and reliable.
But a lot depends on your burner.

Avoid 4X burners in 08/2004, unless you can get them for free. With high quality 16X burners (e.g., Pioneer DVR-108 or NEC 3500) costing less than $100, it's silly to buy a ancient 4X one now-a-days.

i checked on rima and the verbatim and taiyo are about $.80-$1.00 a piece. are tehse discs 100% good? like out of a batch of 100 do all of them burn. are there any cheaper ones around $0.29-$0.50

I have had no problems with Verbatim, I've been through three spindles with not one coaster. The catch is that this only applies to the ones made in Singapore, they are for sure MCC. They also farm out some of their production to other makers in Taiwan and Japan, I can't vouch for those.

I'm not sure this holds true, but all the Singapore ones I have bought are printed with violet ink and say 'Datalife Plus'. These are the + ones, the - may be a different color. They run about $1.33 (not on sale) each and are the cheapest 'good' ones I have found. Japanese made Maxell seem pretty good too but I haven't used enough of them to make any bold claims.

I agree with DVDDave, find one that works and stick with them.

Buy 1st class media (Maxell, TY) and you will be fine.

Buy Prodisc and you will probably be fine too but you will have much more money left in your pocket.

I personally use printable 63512x Maxells for important backups and matte ProdiscS03s for stuff I give away or stuff that does not have to be practically guaranteed perfect- since I don't have time for testing.

I have never tried Ritek DVD-Rs and have no intention to.

The recent MCC\Prodisc controversy might be of some interest to you. MCC or ProdiscS03, you can't lose in my opinion.

Ive been hearing a LOT of positive about Prodisc's, they have a higher quality rating than Riteks and are more cost efficiant.

Your best bet is to check the 'DVD Writers' section on this website for your specific writer.

... and check the DVD player list too, as that usually has more impact on what people thinks makes a "coaster" than anything else. If you can find a disc listed in both, you will probably be OK.

Don't forget writing to a disc is only half the story - you still need to be able to read it back in your target device.

I think this should be said you could have the best media in the world but if you use a shitty process they will just not work.
