I wanted to extract a specific range of chapters from the dvd and burn it for the purpose of watching these specific scenes only (like watching the car chase part of the movie) using the Title Chapter Extraction option from MTR. When I burned the extracted chapters in dvd, my computer and standalone machines cannot read it. Why can't I make it work and what should have been done?

I just posted a note about this and AntnyMD pointed me in the right direction.
You probably need to demux the vobs produced by MTR. I used ffmpegX to demux mine. Once I had my m2v and ac3 streams I used DVDSP to author a new disc. -
For demuxing, I've found that Extractor (http://denisx.dyndns.org/extractor/) has the easiest interface, and works quite well.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté." -
DVD Studio Pro is a $500 (professional) application sold by Apple, with such a wealth of features and options that a simple tutorial isn't going to cut it. Thankfully, however, it comes with a very thorough tutorial. If you're a bit more budget-conscious than that, you can use the freeware Sizzle, which is also much easier to use.

It's geek to me!
...howdy, newbie here. Tee Jay posted the same question I had when using Mac the Ripper to extract specific chapters that I wanted to burn to a DVD. I got the same result: vob files that couldn't be read...
...I'm sure this thread has the right answer - I just can't decipher it. What does "demux the vobs" mean? From there, are the files ready to be burned? Sorry for the questions but I haven't quite figured this all out yet. Thanks for your consideration... -
demux is Orwellian-speak for demultiplex, i.e., separate the audio from the video. A vob file is a multiplexed file containing audio video and sometimes subtitles.
For those who had problems authoring demultiplexed content its probably because the audio file (the Dolby Digital audio file) has a damaged frame at the beginning of the file. Get mAC3dec to fix itl -
To answer the question more directly, once you get the demuxed audio and video streams (elementary streams) from the VOB, you can use ffmpegx to author them as DVD as suggested earlier. That's the free way. If you can afford DVD2OneX you can rip the entire DVD to your hard drive and then select just the chapters you want under Movie Only. The output will be a proper Video_TS folder.

...thanks for clearing it up for me. Any thoughts on Cinematize for extracting individual chapters and Forty-Two for copying full DVDs?...
