I was just wondering if there is a DVD recorder that can accept optical/coaxe digital input. I checked all the units at the BestBuy and Futureshop in Canada and all dont have any digital inputs for recording. What I want to do is to extract TV programs that is recorded on my Explorer 8000HD cable PVR that are recorded in DD5.1 to DVD. The firewire output on the 8000 is deactivated on the unit I get from the cable campany also. Currently I can burned them using stereo analog audio but no DD5.1.

Is there a recorder that can do it. I dont want to have to input via a HD capture card that has dd inputs to my PC to do this if I dont have to.

    Thanks In Advance.

  4. Well, it would be nice if they actually had an actual product, as they've been hyping this feature for over a year. They keep putting out PR releases for new models and claim the new units will have this ability. Considering their track record, I'm not holding my breathe.

  5. Please excuse me for sounding dumb, Do Standalone DVD recorders record the audio in Sterio AC3 or LPCM? I have been thinking about getting one and was just curious.

It would be a big plus if there was one that recorded Dobly Digital 5.1. Maybe I'll wait a couple of months and see if a new 5.1 is released.

Does it mean that they will record from its own tuner in DD or can they accept an external source for DD recording. What I really need is one that can take a DD input.

  7. According to the Philips DVDR740/755 specifications flyers available in PDF format, both units have digital audio in (ccoaxial and optical).

I like to dream that the reason for the delay of both units is for the addition of DL burning capability.

Now if only they would include recordable component video inputs. That would make the ideal DVD Recorder IMO....

Will have to wait for newer format to do HiDef tho... 8)
