I restart my computer and the automatic update thing pops up and so I click it and it says SP2 and I click the download button. Then the automatic update thing in the tray disappears and nothing happens. I went to the automatic update website to download it manually but it's all changed and I got thoroughly confused and frustrated. Any help getting this would be appreciated.

That will work but I actually don't need the full install. The one the auto update balloon has is about 75 mb b/c I already have sp1 installed. I've tried on two diff. computers and neither has worked right yet.

  3. same problem here. If it won't even download correctly what are the chances it'll work correctly once installed. Think I'll hold off till the updates for the patches for the fixes that update the patched fixes for SP2 come out in a year or so.

No, but I am debating. It's like 250mb or so and will take about 7 min. for me to download so really what have I got to lose right?

    Offline,

Do you have a test machine?

    I recommend testing it first.

  11. Yes.. several @ home. Good advice, but there are a load of networking
apps on my main box and I have plan9, SCO, win98, backoffice, MS 2000 server all currently "working nicely" together so I'm going to wait a bit.

Maybe I will plonk in on my laptop just to see.

  12. Installed SP2 on my new Athlon64 machine...

It runs fine. I haven't hit any new problems on it compared to SP1.

    Virtualis,

It looks like you will be able to fully utilize the data execution prevention(DEP) feature unlike most of the rest of us.

I like the feature, however it really does not do me any good.

  14. I'm reading that DEP is causing so many weird and wonderful
issues that it should be deactivated on supported servers.
Nice idea though - beats GMP in theory.

  15. I haven't hit any issues with DEP yet...

In any case, it's a useful feature in hardware, even if the early Microsoft implementation is dodgy.

  19. Must 'ave been on some local proxies then. I only get these
high speeds overseas occasionally. Mostly it's under 10mbit/sec unless
I'm d/ling from an Aussie server.

I would hold off for a bit. All of my friends that have used the Service Pack 2 update have had problems. However, Service Pack 2 came with my operating system and I have had no troubles with it yet.
